Pramac GBW15P 15 kVA Silent Diesel Generator

The Pramac GBW15P is a compact 15 kVA silent diesel generator powered by a dependable UK-built Perkins engine. Delivering 15 kVA / 11 kW standby and 13 kVA / 10 kW prime power, this enclosed 3 phase model combines long running times, low operating noise and versatile socket outputs.

Reliable Standby and Prime Power

Designed for commercial, industrial and agricultural users, the GBW15P canopied generator produces 400V 3 phase power at 50Hz. Its 0.8 power factor and 1500rpm operating speed make it well suited to powering workshops, small business premises, construction equipment, farms, pumps, lighting and other essential electrical loads.

The generator has two clearly defined power ratings:

  • Standby (ESP): 15 kVA / 11 kW for emergency backup during a mains failure
  • Prime (PRP): 13 kVA / 10 kW for extended operation as the main power source under a variable load

As a 15 kVA diesel generator, the GBW15P provides dependable emergency power where interruptions could stop work, compromise security or affect essential equipment. Its standby rating is intended for operation during utility outages or scheduled testing, subject to the manufacturer’s prescribed servicing intervals and ISO 8528 operating limits.

At its prime rating, this 13 kVA diesel generator can operate for an unlimited number of hours per year while supplying a variable electrical load, provided that servicing and average-load requirements are observed. This makes the GBW15P suitable for off-grid locations and projects where mains electricity is unavailable or unreliable.

Correct generator sizing remains important. Starting currents from motors, pumps, compressors and refrigeration equipment can be considerably higher than their normal running demand, so the connected load should be assessed before purchase.

UK Perkins Diesel Engine

At the heart of the GBW15P silent generator is the proven Perkins 403D-15G. This naturally aspirated, three-cylinder engine has a 1496cc displacement, mechanical speed governor and water-cooled design. Straightforward mechanical governing helps provide stable performance without adding unnecessary electronic complexity.

The UK Perkins engine uses a 12V electric starting system and includes glow-plug preheating to support dependable starting in colder conditions. A mounted radiator, thermostatically controlled cooling circuit, belt-driven coolant pump and pusher fan manage engine temperature during operation.

Routine servicing is supported by accessible air, fuel and oil filters, a wet steel sump with dipstick and a capped oil-drain pipe. The engine holds 6 litres of oil and 6 litres of coolant. Its unregulated emissions classification should be checked against the rules applying at the generator’s intended destination, particularly when exporting the unit or installing it in a regulated low-emission market.

Fuel-Efficient 10 kW Prime Generator

The GBW15P enclosed model has an integrated 51 litre plastic diesel tank with an external filler, breather and visual fuel-level indicator. At 75% of prime load, fuel consumption is approximately 2.74 litres per hour, giving up to 18.61 hours of operation. At full prime output, consumption is approximately 3.60 litres per hour and autonomy is around 14.17 hours.

These figures make the GBW15P a practical 10 kW diesel generator for working days or overnight duty without frequent refuelling. Actual consumption and running time will vary with load, site conditions, fuel quality and maintenance.

Mecc Alte Alternator for Stable 3 Phase Power

A brushless Mecc Alte ECP3-2L4C alternator converts the engine’s mechanical output into stable electrical power. It features four poles, Class H insulation and IP23 protection. The digital DSR automatic voltage regulator maintains static voltage accuracy within ±1%, helping protect connected equipment from avoidable voltage variation.

The alternator’s 2/3-pitch winding design reduces triplen harmonics and excessive neutral currents, improving its suitability for non-linear electrical loads. A separate Mecc Alte auxiliary winding supplies the regulator and supports up to 300% forced current for 20 seconds. This can assist with short-circuit maintenance and the demanding starting requirements of suitable electric motors.

The generator’s specified maximum current is 20.66 A per phase. Electrical protection is provided by a 20 A three-pole circuit breaker.

Manual Key-Start Generator with MCP Controls

This version of the GBW15P uses Pramac’s MCP manual control panel. The operator starts and stops the generator locally using a keyed selector switch, which also incorporates glow-plug preheating. It is therefore an effective key-start diesel generator for attended sites where simple, direct operation is preferred.

The analogue instrumentation includes:

  • Single phase voltmeter
  • Single phase ammeter
  • Hours counter
  • Emergency-stop button
  • Protective power switch

Alarms monitor battery-charger failure, low oil pressure, high engine temperature and earth faults. Automatic shutdown protection responds to battery-charger failure, low oil pressure and excessive engine temperature.

Because this is the manual-control variant, it does not automatically detect a mains failure and start in the way an AMF-equipped generator would. Buyers requiring unattended automatic backup should consider the automatic control-panel version or discuss the appropriate transfer arrangement before ordering.

Diesel Generator with 3 Phase and Single Phase Sockets

The standard socket panel allows one generator to serve a useful mix of equipment without requiring every load to be connected through a separate distribution board. Outputs comprise:

  • One 32 A 400V 3 phase CEE socket
  • One 16 A 400V 3 phase CEE socket
  • Two 16 A 230V single phase CEE sockets
  • One 16 A 230V Schuko socket

Although multiple outlets are provided, their combined demand must remain within the generator’s overall rating and circuit-breaker limit. Loads should also be distributed carefully across the phases to minimise imbalance. Installation and temporary distribution should always be assessed by a competent electrician.

Soundproof Canopy and Compact Design

The GBW15P canopied unit uses a single-piece, hinged enclosure lined with polyurethane acoustic material. A residential-grade silencer is positioned inside the canopy to further reduce exhaust noise. The resulting sound pressure level is just 65 dB(A) at 7m, while the guaranteed sound power level is 94 dB(A).

This acoustic performance makes the GBW15P silent model a strong choice for premises, farms and working environments where controlling generator noise is important. The enclosure also provides a useful physical barrier around moving and hot components, although suitable ventilation, exhaust clearance and installation distances must still be maintained.

The generator measures 1645mm long, 870mm wide and 1072mm high, with a dry weight of 480kg. Its welded steel base frame incorporates anti-vibration mountings and support feet. A central lifting eye simplifies handling by suitably rated lifting equipment, while pneumatic canopy arms provide convenient access for inspections and servicing.

A Versatile Industrial Backup Generator

The Pramac GBW15P combines a recognised Perkins diesel engine, Mecc Alte alternator and robust sound-attenuated enclosure in a compact industrial generator. Its long fuel autonomy, mixed socket panel and straightforward manual controls make it particularly useful for attended standby installations, mobile project power and remote prime-power applications.

For buyers comparing an 11 kW standby generator, the GBW15P offers credible engine and alternator technology with practical protection and servicing features. Its 15 kVA emergency rating provides valuable capacity during power cuts, while the 13 kVA prime rating supports sustained variable-load operation where a reliable mains connection is not available.
