The Pramac GSW220P is a powerful silent diesel generator designed for automatic standby and demanding prime-power duties. Its UK-built Perkins engine, Mecc Alte alternator, weatherproof acoustic canopy and ACP automatic control panel create a dependable 400V 3 phase power solution for industrial, commercial and infrastructure sites worldwide.
The GSW220P delivers 220 kVA / 176 kW of emergency standby power (ESP), providing substantial capacity for maintaining essential operations during a mains failure. For buyers specifying a 176 kW generator, this model combines high output with automatic monitoring and a sound-attenuated enclosure.
Its prime rating is 200 kVA / 160 kW for supplying variable electrical loads where mains power is unavailable or unsuitable. As a 200 kVA generator, it can support extended operation within the manufacturer’s prescribed loading and maintenance limits. The permissible average output over a 24-hour period must not exceed 70% of the prime rating.
The generator produces 400V 3 phase power at 50Hz with a 0.8 power factor. This makes the GSW220P silent model particularly relevant to industrial machinery, pumps, HVAC systems and commercial installations that require a substantial 3 phase electrical supply.
Power is provided by the Perkins 1106A-70TAG4, a proven six-cylinder inline diesel engine with a 7000cm³ displacement. This turbocharged, water-cooled UK Perkins engine uses an electronic speed governor to maintain controlled operation as the connected load changes.
Designed to run at 1500rpm, the engine has a gross prime output of 178.9 kW and a maximum gross output of 196.3 kW. A radiator incorporating an air-to-air charge cooler and fuel cooler supports heat management during sustained operation, while replaceable fuel, air and oil filters simplify routine servicing.
Further engine specifications include:
The UK-built Perkins configuration gives this industrial diesel generator the torque and load response needed for substantial electrical equipment. The engine is listed as non-emissions-certified at 50Hz, so buyers should confirm its suitability for the intended country, installation and application.
The Perkins engine is coupled to a Mecc Alte ECO38-2S brushless alternator. This four-pole alternator has Class H insulation, IP23 protection and an efficiency of 92.9% at 75% load.
A digital DSR automatic voltage regulator maintains voltage accuracy within ±1% under the specified operating conditions. This controlled output is valuable when the GSW220P enclosed generator is supplying loads that could be affected by excessive voltage variation.
The alternator’s 2/3-pitch stator winding helps suppress triplen harmonics and reduce excessive neutral currents associated with some non-linear loads. Its separate MAUX auxiliary winding can sustain 300% forced current for up to 20 seconds, supporting demanding motor-starting requirements. Actual starting currents should still be assessed before selecting any generator for large pumps, compressors or motors.
Maximum output current is 317.55A per phase, with the generator protected by a 320A 3 pole circuit breaker. Power cables connect directly to the circuit breaker in the standard ACP output arrangement.
This GSW220P canopied model is equipped with Pramac’s ACP automatic control panel. Its digital control unit monitors the generator, engine and incoming mains supply while providing manual, automatic and test operating modes.
Displayed information includes:
The panel provides remote-start capability, an automatic battery charger, an acoustic alarm, an RS232 communications port and password-controlled access levels. Operators can also force the mains or generator contactor and use dedicated controls for starting, stopping, resetting faults and navigating the display.
Protective functions monitor low fuel, low oil pressure, high engine temperature, starting failure, overload, abnormal voltage or frequency and battery faults. Relevant critical conditions trigger an automatic shutdown. Earth-fault monitoring, circuit-breaker protection and an externally accessible emergency stop provide further safeguards.
For automatic mains failure operation, the ACP can control a compatible Load Transfer Switch. The separate LTS detects the required supply state and transfers the load between the mains and generator under the ACP’s control. A transfer switch is an accessory and should be correctly specified, installed and commissioned by a suitably qualified electrical engineer.
The GSW220P silent generator is housed in a modular canopy manufactured from zinc-treated steel for resistance to corrosion and demanding outdoor conditions. Properly fixed and sealed panels form a weatherproof enclosure, while protected side air inlets and a roof-mounted hot-air outlet support ventilation.
Sound-attenuation material and an internal residential silencer reduce operational noise. The stated sound pressure level is 68dB(A) at 7m, with a guaranteed sound power level of 97dB(A) LWA. Site layout, nearby reflective surfaces and installation conditions can affect the noise experienced in practice.
Wide side doors, stainless-steel hinges, lockable handles and removable panels provide service access. The control panel sits behind a separate lockable door with a viewing window. Anti-vibration mountings isolate the engine and alternator from the welded steel base frame, while a detachable roof lifting eye assists with correctly planned handling.
An integrated 350-litre plastic fuel tank includes a filler neck, breather and minimum-level sensor. At 75% of prime load, stated fuel consumption is approximately 34.59 litres/hour, giving around 10.12 hours of runtime. At full prime output, consumption rises to approximately 45.37 litres/hour, with an estimated autonomy of 7.71 hours.
Actual fuel use will depend on loading, ambient conditions, maintenance and fuel quality. Correct sizing is essential: prolonged light loading can be undesirable for a diesel engine, while insufficient capacity may cause overloads or poor motor-starting performance.
The standard GSW220P canopied generator measures 3400mm long, 1250mm wide and 1770mm high. Its dry weight is 2088kg, so a suitably engineered base, lifting plan and transport arrangement will be required.
This 160 kW diesel generator is well suited to manufacturing facilities, warehouses, farms, construction compounds, utilities, telecommunications infrastructure and larger commercial premises. It can provide automatic emergency power or serve as a prime power source for correctly assessed variable loads.
Available options include an external terminal board, protected socket kit, remote-control facilities, coolant preheating and an automatic fuel pump. Pramac also offers a premium kit with a leak-proof tray, leakage sensor and manual oil-drain pump, plus a rental kit containing additional site-oriented equipment.
For projects requiring substantially longer autonomy, a 1750-litre extended fuel-tank configuration is available. Site and road trailers can also be specified where the generator needs to be repositioned.
With its automatic control system, robust Perkins engine, stable Mecc Alte alternator and acoustic weatherproof enclosure, the Pramac GSW220P provides a capable solution for buyers who need dependable high-output power with practical monitoring, protection and maintenance access.
