Cummins C2250D5-PB 2250 kVA Containerised Diesel Generator

The Cummins C2250D5-PB is a high-capacity containerised diesel generator delivering 2250 kVA standby power and 2000 kVA prime power. Part of the Centum™ Force range, this fully integrated 50Hz power system combines a Cummins QSK60-G4 engine, Stamford alternator and advanced PowerCommand control within a transportable 40ft high-cube enclosure.

2250 kVA Standby and 2000 kVA Prime Power

Engineered for large-scale critical and industrial power requirements, the C2250D5-PB provides an emergency standby rating of 2250 kVA / 1800 kW. This rating is intended for supplying a variable electrical load during an interruption to a reliable mains utility source.

For sites requiring regular or continuous generator operation, the C2250D5-PB delivers 2000 kVA / 1600 kW of prime power. Its Prime Power rating is suitable for variable loads over an unlimited number of operating hours, with a 10% overload capability available in accordance with the applicable ISO rating definitions.

This combination makes the C2250D5-PB Containerised generator suitable for both mission-critical standby installations and demanding prime-power projects where a dependable 2 MVA generator is required.

Key electrical specifications include:

  • Standby output: 2250 kVA / 1800 kW
  • Prime output: 2000 kVA / 1600 kW
  • Frequency: 50Hz
  • Phase: three-phase
  • Standard low-voltage output: 380–415V
  • Rated speed: 1500rpm
  • Approximate current at 400V: 3251 amps per phase
  • Output connection: Wye, three-phase

High-voltage configurations are also available for projects requiring 10.5 kV or 11 kV output, subject to the final generator specification and project requirements.

Cummins QSK60-G4 Industrial Diesel Engine

At the heart of the C2250D5-PB Enclosed generator is the Cummins QSK60-G4, a powerful 60.2-litre diesel engine developed for large power-generation applications. Its 16-cylinder, 60-degree V configuration provides the displacement and mechanical strength needed to support high electrical loads reliably.

The four-cycle engine is turbocharged and low-temperature aftercooled, helping it maintain controlled combustion temperatures and dependable performance under demanding operating conditions. Cummins HPI-PT fuel-system technology manages fuel delivery, while the electronic governor regulates engine speed to support stable 50Hz output.

The engine produces a gross mechanical output of 1915 kWm at the standby rating and 1730 kWm at prime power. Further specifications include a 159mm bore, 190mm stroke, 14.5:1 compression ratio and a substantial 280-litre lubricating-oil capacity.

A 24V DC starting system supports reliable engine cranking, while an engine coolant heater and battery charger are included within the standard Centum™ Force scope of supply. These features help keep the generator prepared for rapid starting when standby power is required.

Fuel Consumption and Integrated Fuel System

At 100% prime load, the 2000 kVA diesel generator consumes approximately 377 litres of fuel per hour. Consumption reduces to around 287 litres per hour at 75% prime load, 198 litres per hour at 50% load and 110 litres per hour at 25% load.

At its full 2250 kVA standby rating, fuel consumption is approximately 422 litres per hour. Actual site consumption will vary according to the load profile, ambient conditions, fuel quality and the final configuration of auxiliary systems.

The Centum™ Force platform can be configured with a choice of integrated fuel tanks or connected to an external bulk-fuel system. Available solutions include fuel-level monitoring, motorised inlet and outlet valves, and a transfer pump for moving fuel from a bulk tank to the internal supply.

40ft Containerised Generator for Faster Installation

The C2250D5-PB Silent generator is factory integrated within an ISO-format 40ft high-cube container. Its packaged construction brings the engine, alternator, cooling equipment, exhaust system, fuel arrangement and controls together as a coordinated power system before delivery.

This approach can significantly reduce the amount of fabrication and integration required on site. Standard quick-connect interfaces simplify connection to external equipment, while the PowerCommand control system supports straightforward integration with switchgear and wider site infrastructure.

The enclosure measures approximately:

  • Length: 12192mm
  • Width: 2438mm
  • Height: 2896mm
  • Dry weight: 31412kg
  • Wet weight: 31846 kg

Its ISO-based format supports standard sea freight, making this Cummins containerised generator practical for UK projects and international export. The modular structure can also be repositioned or redeployed more easily than a permanently constructed generator room.

Centum™ Force containers can be stacked two units high where the site design and supporting structure permit. Combined with vertical hot-air discharge and reduced spacing requirements, this can save up to 34% of site area compared with some traditional containerised power-system layouts.

Silent Generator Design and High-Ambient Cooling

The C2250D5-PB features an acoustically treated enclosure, exhaust silencer and controlled airflow system to reduce operating noise while maintaining the ventilation required by its large diesel engine.

Published data for the containerised set specifies a sound-pressure level of 83 dB(A) at one metre under 100% standby load when operating with the variable-frequency-drive fan at 40Hz. Sound performance can vary with configuration, installation layout, reflective surfaces and the selected cooling options, so project-specific acoustic assessment remains important for noise-sensitive locations.

Motorised air-intake and outlet louvres regulate airflow through the enclosure. Hot cooling air is discharged vertically, helping prevent one generator’s cooling airflow from being directed towards an adjacent unit. Independently controlled electric cooling fans also support more flexible multi-generator layouts than conventional mechanically driven radiator arrangements.

The cooling system is designed for ambient temperatures up to 50°C. It includes a 615-litre coolant capacity and can move approximately 37.5 cubic metres of cooling air per second, supporting dependable operation in hot and challenging environments.

PowerCommand 3.3 Control and System Monitoring

The Cummins PowerCommand 3.3 controller provides centralised generator control, protection and monitoring. Operators can review key engine and electrical information through the integrated interface, while a colour touchscreen HMI provides wider visibility of the complete container system.

Remote-monitoring connectivity can be incorporated into the installation, allowing authorised teams to observe generator status without remaining beside the unit. This is especially valuable for data centres, utilities, hospitals and geographically dispersed facilities where early visibility of alarms can support faster operational decisions.

The control platform can also support paralleling applications. Multiple C2250D5-PB generator sets may therefore be engineered to start and operate together, providing increased capacity, staged load response or N+1 redundancy for critical facilities.

Designed for Data Centres and Critical Infrastructure

The C2250D5-PB is well suited to projects requiring a large silent diesel generator with a compact, pre-integrated design. Typical applications include:

  • Data centres and telecommunications infrastructure
  • Hospitals and major healthcare facilities
  • Manufacturing and process plants
  • Commercial buildings and large campuses
  • Water, energy and public-utility installations
  • Oil and gas operations
  • Temporary or decentralised power stations
  • Multi-generator standby and prime-power systems

Multiple access doors provide technicians with practical entry to the principal service areas. Modular cooling components and a removable roof can further improve access when major maintenance is required, helping reduce unnecessary dismantling and downtime.

For organisations that need 1800 kW of emergency standby power or a dependable 1600 kW prime generator, the C2250D5-PB offers a complete Cummins power solution built around proven engine, alternator and control technologies. Its factory-integrated enclosure, configurable fuel system, high-ambient cooling and space-efficient layout make it a strong choice for complex projects in the UK and worldwide.
